Center Valley, PA, (January 12, 2005) – Senior Jen Netwall (Allentown, PA/William Allen) scored her 1,000th career point and the DeSales University women’s basketball team cruised past FDU-Florham, 74-51, to stay undefeated in the Freedom Conference this season.
The win moves the Bulldogs to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the Freedom as the Devils have their six-game losing streak snapped and fall to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Netwall scored her 1,000th point from the free throw line with 11:09 left to play in the second half. She is the 15th player in women’s basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
The Bulldogs used a 15-5 run to end the first half extending a four point lead, 17-13, into a 14-point edge, 32-18, at the half. Seniors Alyssa Antolick (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and Holly Liebl (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) combined for 21 of DSU’s 32 points in the first half. DeSales built the lead to as many as 29 points, 55-26, with 10:28 left in the game before providing the final 23-point margin.
Liebl led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs. Antolick totaled 15 points and Netwall finished with 10 tallies and four steals. Freshmen Krista Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford Township) and Jenna Stampf (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) totaled eight and six points off the bench respectively in the win.
Ashley Flaherty recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Danielle Yasko tallied 15 points in the loss for the Devils.
DeSales returns to action on Saturday as they travel to King’s College for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
