Wilkes-Barre, PA, (October 1, 2005) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team has now won nine straight and are 9-0 this season after defeating Freedom Conference foe King’s College, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon.
DSU (9-0, 5-0 Freedom) once again swept all three doubles matches with senior Laura LeVan (Orefield, PA/Parkland) and sophomore Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) winning at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) and sophomore Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) won at the No. 2 spot, and junior Colleen Solomon (Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) and freshman Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) won again at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play McClurkin won easily at the No. 1 position, Guidon won 7-5, 1-0 (11-9) at the No. 2 spot, McElvaney won easily in the No. 3 hole and Gerlach earned a win at the No. 5 spot to provide the final 7-2 margin.
DSU is scheduled to return to action on Monday, October 3rd as they host Albright College in a non-conference match beginning at 3:30 pm.
