Center Valley, PA, (October 1, 2005) – The 22nd ranked DeSales University men’s soccer team rebounded from its tie on Thursday and got back in the win column with a 3-1 win over Freedom Conference foe Wilkes University, 3-1, in front of a large crowd at homecoming on Saturday afternoon.

All the scoring was done in the second half as freshman German Reyes (Beach Lake, PA/Honesdale) was the recipient of some crisp passing in the 48th minute when freshman Chris Ravita (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) sent a corner kick to the back post where fellow freshman Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) knocked a header back across the goal mouth and over the hand of the Colonel goalkeeper to Reyes who was there to knock the ball into the net for this third goal of the season.

The 1-0 lead lasted for just over 11 minutes before another freshman, Andrew Marshall (Greene, NY/Greene Central) scored his first goal of the season taking the rebound of a Reyes shot and firing it just past the WU (7-3-1, 1-1-1 Freedom) goalkeeper and into the net.  Reyes earned an assist on the play.

Wilkes countered in the 70th minute when Kyle Dukmen scored his first tally of the season on an assist by Matt Martin but junior Randy Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) put the exclamation point on the win as he scored on a free kick from about 35 yards out with a shot that flew into the upper left corner of the net and sent the pro DSU crowd into a frenzy.

The win moves DeSales to 8-1-1 overall and to 3-0 in the Freedom Conference.  Sophomore Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) made three saves in between the pipes and DeSales out-shot Wilkes 23-9 in the game.

The Bulldogs do not take much time off as they travel to Arcadia University for a battle of Regionally ranked teams beginning at 4:00 pm on Monday, October 3rd.
