Center Valley, PA (October 11, 2005) – Freshman Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) was sensational on Tuesday night leading the DeSales University volleyball team past Wilkes University, 3-1 (17-30, 30-24, 30-21, 30-26) in a very important Freedom Conference match in Billera Hall.

The win moves the Bulldogs (11-11, 4-1 Freedom) one step closer to clinching a Freedom Conference playoff berth.  DSU is currently in first place but tied with two other teams in the loss column with one loss. The Bulldogs own the tiebreaker over Scranton by virtue of its win earlier in the season and will host FDU-Florham, the other one loss team, next Wednesday in Billera Hall.  A win over the Devils will assure DSU of first place overall and means the Bulldogs will host both rounds of the playoffs at home in Billera Hall.

Rivera accounted for 27 of DSU’s 52 kills in the win over the Colonels (10-13, 1-4 Freedom) on Tuesday evening.  Sophomore Allie Boyer (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) added eight kills and 12 digs and freshman Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) totaled 38 assists and a team-high 13 digs in the win.  Sophomore Gia Zimmerman (Blandon, PA/Reading Central Catholic) and freshman Rachel Koury (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) each tallied four service aces.

DSU returns to action on Saturday, October 15th as they travel to Messiah College for a non-conference game beginning at 11:00 am.
