Center Valley, PA, (October 16, 2005) – The DeSales University men’s soccer team returned to action for the first time in 13 days on Sunday afternoon hosting the University of Scranton in Freedom Conference action and settled for a 1-1 tie in double overtime.

The tie moves DSU to 8-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the Freedom Conference, while the Royals move to 4-6-3 overall and 1-3-1 in the Freedom Conference.

After a scoreless first half, Scranton drew first blood with a goal by Jordan Melchionni off an assist from John Postel at the 68:29 mark of the first half.  It only took the Bulldogs 2:05 to tie the game as junior Phil Yetter (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) capitalized with his second goal of the season on a penalty kick.

Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard the rest of the game as the defenses for both teams kept most of the play in the middle of the field.  Sophomore Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) made four saves for DeSales and David Keib stopped DSU shots as Scranton out-shot DeSales 16-12 for the game.  The overtime game marked the fourth time in the last five games the Bulldogs had played into overtime.

DeSales will return to action on Wednesday, October 19th as they host FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
