Center Valley, PA, (October 19, 2005) – Junior Randy Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) scored twice to lead the DeSales University men’s soccer team past FDU-Florham, 2-1, in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

The win improves DSU to 9-2-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the Freedom Conference, while the loss drops the Devils to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in the Freedom standings.

Sturm scored the first goal at 35:41 mark of the first half after an FDU defender lost control in the box; Sturm took control and fired an uncontested shot past a diving Devil keeper into the short corner of the net.  The marker was Sturm’s 10th of the season.

The second and eventual game-winner came off an assist from his brother, freshman Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May), who sent a centering pass to a wide open Sturm in the middle of the field.  He took one dribble and beat the FDU keeper to the left corner.

The Devils refused to go away however and dominated play over the last 15 minutes, scoring its lone goal at the 76:58 mark as Jimmy Durkan scored his second goal of the season on a header off a free kick pass from Guiseppe Sellitto

FDU had several more chances to tie the game but sophomore Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) made three diving stops in the last 10 minutes to preserve the one goal lead.  He finished with six saves for the game.  DSU out-shot FDU 22-13 in the game and held a 9-5 lead in corner kicks.  Greg Belza made eight saves for the Devils.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, October 22nd as they host Susquehanna University in a non-conference game beginning at Noon.
