Mountain Top, PA (October 26, 2005) – The DeSales University field hockey team suffered its fourth straight loss on Wednesday evening at the hands of Wilkes University, 3-2, in Freedom Conference action played at Crestwood HS in Mountain Top, PA.
The Bulldogs (9-8, 2-4 Freedom) were able to get on the scoreboard for the first time in four games as freshman Marisa Baldassano (Audubon, PA/Villa Maria Academy) scored her fifth goal of the season just 2:24 into the game to give DSU a 1-0 lead.
The lead lasted for the better part of 21 minutes before the Colonels’ (8-8, 3-3 Freedom) Devon McKay scored the first of her two tallies to tie the score at one off an assist from Megan Farrell. The score remained tied heading into halftime.
McKay scored her second just eight minutes into the second half, this time off an assist from Jaclyn Renner giving WU a 2-1 lead. That lead lasted just seven minutes when junior Bethany Hepner (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) scored her 12th goal of the season off a corner feed from sophomore Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton).
With the score tied at two, Wilkes broke the tie at the 53:06 mark as Lindsey Thomas scored off a feed from Kerry Battersby to make it a 3-2 game and that’s where it ended.
WU out-shot DSU 17-14 and held a 17-12 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore Amy Zoltek (Harleysville, PA/Lansdale Catholic) made eight saves for the Bulldogs as did her counterpart, Hilary Weber, from Wilkes.
The Bulldogs return to action under the lights one more time on Thursday, October 27th as they travel to play Ramapo College at Don Bosco Prep College beginning at 7:30 pm.
