Women’s Soccer Ties Wilkes, 1-1

Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 27, 2005) – The DeSales University women’s soccer team shocked the Wilkes University Colonels by playing WU to a 1-1 tie thru two overtime periods on Thursday afternoon in Freedom Conference action.

The Colonels entered the game with a 13-2 record overall and ranked among the top eight in the Mid-Atlantic Region but drop to 13-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the Freedom Conference with the tie, while the Bulldogs see their record go to 6-7-3 overall and 1-3-2 in the Freedom standings.

DSU scored first and led throughout the first half and for the first 11 minutes of the second half before the Colonels found the tying score.  Freshman Dana Eustace (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Township) scored DSU’s goal, her fifth of the season at the 13:40 mark of the first half.

The lead lasted until the 56:19 mark of the second half when Bethany Head scored off an assist from Jessica Gannon to tie the game at one.  That tally ended the scoring as Wilkes out-shot DeSales 25-6 but was unable to find the back of the net again.

Junior Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made 12 saves in between the pipes for the Bulldogs, while her counterpart Jessica Berkey stopped three Bulldog shots.

The Bulldogs will conclude its 2005 season on Saturday, October 29th as they host Lycoming College in a Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
