Center Valley, PA (October 29, 2005) – The DeSales University women’s soccer team finished off its 2005 season in grand fashion defeating Lycoming College, 3-1, in Freedom Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
The win gives DeSales a 7-7-3 overall record and a 2-3-2 record in Freedom Conference play. The Warriors fall to 8-9 overall and 1-6 in the Freedom Conference.
The Warriors got on the scoreboard first as Danielle Curry scored her ninth goal of the season on an assist from Dana Steinbruch at the 7:25 mark to give Lyco a 1-0 early lead. Just over eight minutes later DSU tied the score with senior Rachel Emmons (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) scoring her first of two goals to tie the game at one and finish off the first-half scoring.
In the second half, senior Kaitlyn Celeste (Basking Ridge, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) found freshman Katie Dishman (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) on a corner kick as Dishman made it a 2-1 game with her third tally of the season. Celeste was awarded her first assist of the season on the play.
Emmons struck again at the 79:59 mark taking a pass from freshman Jessica Baker (Churchville, PA/St. Basil Academy) and putting away her seventh goal of the season to put the exclamation point on a 3-1 Bulldogs victory. Emmons finishes her career with 23 goals and eight assists for 54 points which ranks second all-time at DeSales.
DSU out-shot Lycoming, 21-11, and held a 3-2 edge on corner kicks. Junior Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made two stops in between the pipes, while her counterpart Jessica Baker made eight stops for the Warriors.
