Williamsport, PA (October 30, 2005) – The DeSales University men’s soccer team secured the top seed in this week’s Freedom Conference playoffs on Sunday afternoon, defeating Lycoming College, 4-2, in the regular season Freedom Conference finale for both teams.

The win give DSU a 13-2-2 overall record and a 6-0-1 record in the Freedom, while the loss drops the Warriors to 14-5 overall and 5-2 in the Freedom.  DSU will enter as the #1 seed and will host Wilkes University in the opening round on Wednesday, November 2nd at 2:00 pm.  Drew University earns the #2 seed and will host Lycoming in the other semifinal game on Wednesday.

Junior Randy Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) was again the hero for the Bulldogs on Sunday totaling one goal and two assists to lead DSU.  He assisted his brother, freshman Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May), on the first goal of the game at the 12:05 mark.  Sturm scored his lone tally on a penalty kick 14 minutes later giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

The Warriors cut the lead in half on the first of Jeff Kocher’s two goals at the 32:17 mark but DSU answered as freshman Tim Hall (Montclair, VA/Bishop Ireton) scored his third goal of the season on an assist from fellow freshman Chris Ravita (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) just before halftime, giving DeSales a 3-1 edge at the break.

Freshman German Reyes (Beach Lake, PA/Honesdale) made it a three goal game just 2:51 into the second half on a goal assisted by Sturm and DSU never looked back.  Kocher cut the margin to two at the 51:10 mark but that ended the scoring.

Sophomore Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) made two saves as did Ryan Humphreys for the Warriors.  Lycoming held a 21-14 edge in shots, while DSU managed a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.
