Women’s Tennis Falls for First Time, Loses to Moravian, 7-2

Sophomore Liz Guidon won a thrilling come from behind match at the No. 2 singles spot on Thursday, 0-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8).
 
Center Valley, PA, (October 6, 2005) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team wound up on the losing side of the final score for the first time all season on Thursday afternoon falling to local rival Moravian College in non-conference action.
 
        Bright spots for DeSales were a pair of sophomores Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) and Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) who each won singles matches at the No. 1 and 2 spots on the afternoon.
 
        McClurkin won easily at the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 6-0 over Rebecca Angstadt and Guidon pulled off a huge comeback win at the No. 2 spot defeating Nicole Gruber, 0-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) in a thrilling match.  Guidon and McClurkin each improve to 11-0 this season and McClurkin improves to 25-0 in her brief career.
 
        The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday as they host The University of Scranton in a very important Freedom Conference match beginning at 1:00 pm.  The winner of the match will earn the #1 seed in next week’s Freedom Conference playoffs.
