Selinsgrove, PA (November 20, 2005) – Junior Kirby Lutz (Easton, PA/Pen Argyl) scored a game-high 19 points to lead the DeSales University women’s basketball team past Manhattanville College, 79-47, in the consolation game of the Susquehanna University Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
DeSales (1-1 overall) led by 10 points at the half, 35-25, and put the game away in the early stages of the second half with a 27-4 run over an 11-minute span that made turned a nine point DSU lead into a 32-point Bulldog lead with 6:51 to play. The run started with a jumper from sophomore Krista Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) and ended with a trey from freshman Erica Sovak (Tuxedo, NY/George F. Baker).
Lutz scored her 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and added four steals as she was the lone Bulldog named to the All-Tournament Team. Sovak and fellow freshman Lyndsey Sykes (Avalon, NJ/Middle Township) each reached double figures with Sykes totaling 14 and Sovak notching 10 tallies.
Sophomore Jenna Stampf (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and freshman LeighAnn Burke (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) filled the stat sheet with six points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Manhattanville received a double-double from Lauren Grenier with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Jessica Delagrange totaled 11 points in the loss.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, November 22nd as they host local rival Moravian College in non-conference action beginning at 6:00 pm.
