Men’s Hoops Tops Aggies, 74-54, Koch Scores Game-High 22

Doylestown, PA, (February 15, 2005) – The DeSales University men’s basketball team used a decisive second-half run to defeat Delaware Valley College, 74-54, in Freedom Conference action on Tuesday evening in James Work Gymnasium.
 
        The win moves DeSales (18-6, 10-3 Freedom) back into a tie for first place with King’s College as the Monarchs lost at Scranton on Tuesday evening.  The Bulldogs can earn the top seed with a win over Lycoming College on Saturday in Williamsport.  The loss drops the Aggies to 9-15 overall and 4-9 in the Freedom Conference.
 
        After DeSales took a 15-point halftime lead by shooting 55.2 percent in the opening half, the Aggies held DeSales without a field goal over the first eight minutes in the second half to pull with five at 40-35 with 12:34 left to play.  Two free throws by senior David Spadt (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) ignited a 12-0 run that pushed the advantage up to 17 points, 52-35, and the Bulldogs cruised the rest of the way.
 
        Senior Kyle Koch (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) scored a game-high 22 points to lead the DeSales attack with 17 of his tallies coming in the first half.  Senior Michael Venafra (Belmont Hills, PA/Lower Merion) added 15 points and Spadt finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks.  Freshman Eddie Ohlson (Allentown, PA/Parkland) totaled seven points and a game-high eight assists in the win.
 
        Senior Randall Graves led Delaware Valley with 18 points, five assists and four steals.  He was the lone player in double digits for the Aggies.

        DeSales returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Lycoming College for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
