Women’s Hoops Cruises Past FDU-Florham, Antolick Ties Career-High

Madison, NJ, (February 9, 2005) – Senior Alyssa Antolick (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) tied her career-high with 32 points leading the DeSales University women’s basketball team past FDU-Florham, 78-61, in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening in the Ferguson Recreation Center.
 
        Antolick scored 21 of her game-high 32 points in the second-half as she led DeSales on a 17-0 run mid-way through the half pushing a nine-point lead at 44-35 into a 26-point lead, 61-35.  Five different Bulldogs scored during the run and Antolick led the way with six points during the spurt.
 
        The win improves DeSales to 17-5 overall and 8-3 in the Freedom Conference, while the loss drops the Devils to 12-9 overall and 4-6 in the Freedom.  DSU forced 29 FDU turnovers for the game and out-rebounded FDU, 47-43, for the game.
 
        The Bulldogs lead was as high as 15 points in the first-half, 30-15, before taking a 12-point lead, 37-25, into the locker rooms.  The Bulldogs held the Devils to 24.2 percent shooting in the opening half and converted 76.2 percent of its free throw attempts (16-of-21).
 
        Antolick’s career-high came on 11-of-18 shooting from the field and 9-of-12 shooting from the charity stripe.  She also added nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and four blocks.  Senior Holly Liebl (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) added 17 points and seven rebounds, while fellow senior Jen Netwall (Allentown, PA/William Allen) totaled 15 points.
 
        Senior Julie Viercinski (West Wyoming, PA/Bishop Hoban) totaled six steals and sophomore Kirby Lutz (Easton, PA/Pen Argyl) finished with seven points, eight rebounds and four steals.
 
        Jessie Chalmers led the Devils with a game-high 18 points and Danielle Yasko added 11 points.  Junior Ashley Flaherty finished with a game-high 12 rebounds in the loss.

         DeSales returns to action on Saturday, February 12th as they host the University of Scranton for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.  The game will be televised LIVE by Service Electric Cable TV on Channel 2 and also broadcast live by WGPA 1100 AM.
