Center Valley, PA, (March 19, 2005) – The DeSales University softball team opened its 2005 Freedom Conference schedule with a doubleheader split at home with Wilkes University. The Lady Colonels took game one, 9-1, behind sophomore Laurie Agresti and the Bulldogs took game two, 4-2.
The Bulldogs are now 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom, while Wilkes moves to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom.
In game one, Agresti was dominant pitching a complete-game allowing just five hits and one run while striking out 15 Bulldogs. Sarah Miller provided all the offense Agresti would need with a grand slam home run in the second inning. Alexis Petite was also 2-for-4 with two RBI’s and Nadine Taylor went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Sophomore Jenn Murray (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) was 2-for-3 with a solo home run to lead DeSales. Junior Danielle Jenson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) took the loss allowing 11 hits and eight earned runs.
In game two sophomore Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) tossed a complete-game allowing just five hits and two runs while striking out five to improve to 3-2 on the year. Graduate student Valerie Valach (Huntingdon Valley, PA/St. Basil Academy) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Murray was 2-for-3 with an RBI and senior Jennine Mara (Philadelphia, PA/JW Hallahan) hit a solo home run in the win.
DeSales is scheduled to return to action on Sunday, March 20th as they host Swarthmore College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
