DeSales Splits Doubleheader at Albright College, Jenson Tosses Shutout

Junior Danielle Jenson pitched a five-hit shutout in game one and was 3-for-4 in game two at Albright on Wednesday afternoon.

Center Valley, PA, (March 30, 2005) – The DeSales University softball team returned to action today following several rainouts over the past week and earned a split of a doubleheader at Albright College in non-conference action.

The Bulldogs (6-7 overall) won game one, 2-0, while the Lions of Albright (9-7 overall) won game two, 5-4.  Each team rallied for runs in the seventh inning to win each game.

In the first game, graduate student Valerie Valach (Huntingdon Valley, PA/St. Basil Academy) hit a two-run home run with two out in the top of the seventh inning to give junior Danielle Jenson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and the Bulldogs a 2-0 shutout win in game one.  Jenson was brilliant allowing just five hits and one walk over seven innings.

In game two, the Bulldogs rallied to tie the game at four in the top of the seventh inning but Albright scored once in the bottom of the inning to win 5-4.  Sophomore Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) took the loss despite not allowing an earned run due to DeSales’ five errors in the game.  Wilk also struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Valach added two more hits in game two including a run scored and an RBI and Jenson was 3-for-4 with two RBI’s in the game two loss.  Junior Jenna Rau (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) was 3-for-3 with a run scored also in game two.

DeSales returns to action tomorrow as they host Elizabethtown College for another non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2:30 pm.
