Center Valley, PA, (March 30, 2005) – The DeSales University baseball team returned to action for the first time in nine days and saw its two-game winning streak snapped with a 6-4 loss to FDU-Florham in Freedom Conference action in Madison, NJ.
The Bulldogs committed a season-high four errors and junior Matt Reppert (Allentown, PA/Dieruff) was unusually wild as he walked four batters over five innings after entering the game having walked just five in his previous 22 innings pitched. Reppert, having allowed just one earned run all season, gave up six runs, three earned, to lose for the first time all season.
FDU took a 2-0 lead after one inning only to see the Bulldogs tie it up at two in the top of the second and the Devils took a 3-2 lead at the end of the second inning only to again see DSU tie the game at three in the top of the third inning. After each team put up zeros on the scoreboard, the Devils scored three runs, two unearned, in the bottom of the fifth inning that proved to be the difference.
Seven different Bulldogs had one hit with senior Kyle Hoffman (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown), senior Kyle Peters (Allentown, PA/Parkland), freshman Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) and senior Brian Podolak (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth’s) each knocking in a run in the loss.
Junior Joe Chapman (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) and sophomore Jon Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty), the Cambridge Search Player of the Game, combined to pitch three innings of scoreless relief for DeSales.
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow as they host Delaware Valley College in another Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
