Center Valley, PA, (April 1, 2005) – One day after the Bulldog offense managed just four hits, including two bunt singles, the DeSales University baseball team came alive, posting 24 runs over two games to sweep a Freedom Conference doubleheader with Delaware Valley College and take two of three in the season series.
DeSales (11-4, 4-2 Freedom) won game one 10-2 and game two 14-2. The Aggies had their six-game winning streak snapped and fell to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the Freedom Conference.
In game one, senior Anthony Palmieri (Morgantown, PA/Upper Merion), the Cambridge Search Player of the Game, improved to 3-0 on the season going six innings allowing just three hits and striking out six for the win. Fellow senior Dan Fratantoro (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had the big blow, a three-run shot to right center field to make it a 10-2 game.
The Aggies had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, scoring on a wild pitch, but DSU scored four runs in the bottom of the second and added five more in the fifth to record the win. Six different Bulldogs knocked in runs in the game one victory.
In game two, senior Ian Hauze (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville), the Cambridge Search Player of the game in game two, went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead the bat attack. Hauze lone out came on a deep fly to the left center field fence that was caught by a diving centerfielder in the second inning.
Nine different Bulldogs knocked in runs and four DSU players had multiple hits including seniors Kyle and Chris Peters’ (Allentown, PA/Parkland) who each went 2-for-3. Fratantoro also had two hits, making him 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI’s in the doubleheader. Junior Jon Pallone (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) earned his first win of the season pitching five strong innings allowing just three hits and two runs.
DeSales returns to action on Wednesday, April 6th as they host Rutgers-Newark for a non-league game beginning at 3:30 pm.
