Madison, NJ, (April 10, 2005) – Playing its fourth and fifth game in three days, the DeSales University baseball team settled for a split of its doubleheader at Drew University in Freedom Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Doc Young Field.
The Bulldogs finish its grueling 5-game Freedom Conference weekend series with a 4-1 record having swept King’s College all three games and splitting with Drew University. DSU (16-5, 8-3 Freedom) won the first game on Sunday, 9-6, before falling in the second, 5-2. No rest for the weary however as DeSales will take to the road for non-league action on Monday at College Misericordia and host home games on both Tuesday and Wednesday at Butz Field.
In game one, senior and Cambridge Search Player of the Game, Kyle Hoffman (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) led the attack by going 3-for-3 with a run scored and four RBI’s. The Bulldogs scored twice in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings and added one more tally in the second for the win.
Junior Jon Pallone (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) earned his second win of the season going 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits and five runs. Sophomore Jon Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) pitched a perfect 1.1 innings to record his second save of the year.
Senior Ian Hauze (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and fellow seniors Dan Fratantoro (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) and Chris Peters (Allentown, PA/Parkland) each had three hits in the win. Fratantoro's three hits gave him 200 for his career joining Hauze who became the first to accomplish the feat in yesterday's doubleheader.
In game two, the Bulldogs managed just six hits and two runs over seven innings to fall to the Rangers (5-11-1, 2-5 Freedom). Junior Pete Quarracino (Kimberton, PA/Phoenixville) suffered the loss after allowing just three earned runs over four innings. Sophomore Matt Lezinsky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty), the Cambridge Search Player of the Game, was 1-for-4 with a two-RBI double in the loss.
The Bulldogs will travel to College Misericordia for a single game beginning at 3:30 pm on Monday.
