Bulldogs Take Series from Drew, Offense Pounds out 25 Runs, 26 Hits

Junior Derek Miller was 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI's in the 25-5 win over Drew University on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Center Valley, PA, (April 13, 2005) – The DeSales University baseball team concluded its eight games in six days stretch with a 25-5 convincing win over Drew University in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Butz Field to take the season series with the Rangers two games to one.
 
        Over these past eight games, DeSales (19-5, 9-3 Freedom) posted a 7-1 record and scored 113 runs (14.1 RPG).  DSU batted .435 as a team had a 3.14 team ERA over that same span.  The loss drops the Rangers to 6-12-1 overall and 2-6 in the Freedom.  The Bulldogs now take Thursday off and will prepare for its big weekend series with Wilkes University.  The Colonels enter the weekend with just two conference losses.
 
        Junior Derek Miller (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) continued to swing a hot bat at the plate on Wednesday as he went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI’s to earn Cambridge Search Player of the Game honors.  It was Miller’s single in the second inning that started a six-run rally after DSU had trailed 3-1 early.
 
        Sophomore JT Brotoski (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) battled through six tough innings allowing eight hits, four earned runs and six walks, while striking out six to improve to 2-0 on the season.  Junior Jon Pallone (Syracuse, NY/West Genesse) and sophomore Jon Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) combined to pitch three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
 
        Senior Nolan Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) also had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBI’s as every Bulldog in the lineup recorded at least one hit with the exception of senior Dan Fratantoro (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township).  Fratantoro was only retired once however as he walked four times and scored three times on the day.
 
        Sophomore Matt Lezinsky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty), senior Ian Hauze (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) and senior Chris Peters (Allentown, PA/Parkland) each had three hits with Lezinsky and Hauze adding three runs scored and two RBI’s each to the attack.  Senior Kyle Peters (Allentown, PA/Parkland) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI’s.

          The first game in the three-game set with Wilkes will be at Butz Field on Friday afternoon beginning at 3:30 pm.
