Softball Splits Doubleheader at Drew, 13-8 and 3-4

Graduate Student Valerie Valach was a combined 4-for-10 in the DH split with Drew University on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Center Valley, PA (April 12, 2005) - The DeSales University softball team recorded another doubleheader sweep on Tuesday afternoon at Drew University winning game one, 13-8, before falling in game two 4-3 in 11 innings.
 
        The split moves DeSales record to 9-14 overall and 2-4 in the Freedom Conference, while the Rangers improve to 10-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference standings.
 
        In game one, DeSales scored three times in the first, five times in the fifth and five more times in the seventh to record the win.  Sophomore Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) earned the win to improve to 4-7 on the season as she went all seven innings allowing six earned runs.
 
        Sophomore Jenn Murray (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI and senior Jennine Mara (Philadelphia, PA/John W. Hallahan) was 2-for-3 with three RBI’s including a home run and a triple to lead the bat attack.
 
        Graduate student Valerie Valach (Huntingdon Valley, PA/St. Basil Academy), sophomore Jennifer Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) and senior Shavonne Hannahoe (Shoemakersville, PA/Hamburg Area) each had two hits as eight of the nine starters in game one recorded hits.
 
        In game two, the Bulldogs scored once in the top of the 11th inning but were unable to keep Drew off the scoreboard in the 11th as the Rangers scored twice to take the 4-3 victory.  Junior Danielle Jenson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) suffered the loss as she pitched 10.1 innings allowing nine hits and just two earned runs.
 
        Jenson, Valach, Hannahoe and Cybularz each had two hits in the game two loss.  Murray, Valach and Jenson also had RBI’s.

         The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday as they host FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at Noon.
