Men’s Tennis Falls at FDU but Earns #4 Seed in Freedom Conference Playoffs

Senior Bill Neal will lead the DeSales University men's tennis team in a first round Freedom Conference Playoff match at Drew University on Thursday, April 21st.

Madison, NJ, (April 19, 2005) – The DeSales University men’s tennis team missed an opportunity to earn the #3 seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs with a 7-0 loss at FDU-Florham on Tuesday afternoon but found out on Wednesday morning that they had won the tiebreaker over the University of Scranton for the #4 seed in Freedom playoffs.

The Bulldogs traveled to Madison, NJ on Tuesday knowing that a win would give them the #3 seed in the playoffs, but DSU suffered a set-back hours before leaving for the match as its #1 singles and doubles player, junior Michael Almazan (Allentown, PA/Parkland), was involved in an automobile accident that required him going to the hospital.  The Bulldogs were left with just five players for the match and were forced to forfeit two matches.

The loss moved FDU-Florham, Scranton and the Bulldogs into a three-way tie for third place at 3-3 in the conference standings.  FDU earned the #3 spot by virtue of the seventh tiebreaker (Individual matches won) and DeSales qualified for the fourth spot by virtue of its 5-2 win over the Royals during the regular season.

DSU will face the #1 seed, Drew University, in the semifinals of the Freedom Conference Playoffs on Thursday, April 21st at 4:30 pm.
