Center Valley, PA (April 21, 2005) – Junior Danielle Jenson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) earned a win and went 2-for-2 in game one to lead the DeSales University softball team to a split with Kean University in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.
The split moves DeSales to 11-16 overall, while the Cougars see their record go to 13-18 overall. DSU won game one, 7-3, before dropping the second, 13-3.
In the first contest Jenson pitched a complete-game to earn the win as she scattered seven hits over seven innings allowing three runs (all unearned) and striking out four. She also went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI to lead the Bulldogs.
Graduate student Valerie Valach (Huntingdon Valley, PA/St. Basil Academy) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI and senior Jennine Mara (Philadelphia, PA/John W. Hallahan) and sophomore Jennifer Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) also recorded two hits as Cybularz knocked in two runs and Mara scored twice and knocked in one run.
In game two, KU broke open a close game in the top of the sixth inning as they scored seven times to take a 10-3 lead and added three more runs in the seventh to provide the final 13-3 margin. Valach and Mara each had two more hits and each knocked in a run in the loss. Sophomore Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) suffered the loss lasting 5.2 innings and allowing five earned runs.
DeSales returns to the diamond on Saturday as they travel to King’s College for a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
