Center Valley, PA, (April 22, 2005) – The DeSales University baseball team suffered its third straight loss on Friday afternoon, falling to Keystone College, 5-4, in a non-conference game.
The Bulldogs fall to 21-8 overall, while the Giants of Keystone College improve to 22-8 overall. Junior Matt Reppert (Allentown, PA/Dieruff) suffered the loss as he lasted six innings allowing 12 hits and three earned runs along with six strikeouts.
DSU had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning as senior Chris Peters (Allentown, PA/Parkland) singled to lead off the inning. Sophomore Mickey Csedrik (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) entered the game as a pinch-runner and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Derek Miller (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen).
Sophomore Matt Lezinsky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) then drew a walk that saw ball four get past the catcher allowing Csedrik to move to third base. With one out, DSU had first and third and senior Nolan Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) up to bat. The Giant pitcher uncorked a wild pitch and Csedrik broke for home, but the Keystone catcher pounced on the ball quickly and threw a strike to the KC pitcher who was covering home and tagged Csedrik. Neiman then flew out to left field ending the game.
DSU had taken a 4-3 lead after two innings, but allowed single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to provide the final margin. Sophomore Jon Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) tossed three shutout innings allowing just two hits in relief of Reppert and senior Dan Fratantoro (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township), the Cambridge Search Player of the Game, was 1-for-2 with two RBI’s and two walks to lead DSU at the plate.
DeSales returns to action on Sunday, April 24th as they host Millersville University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
