Bats No Longer Afraid, Bulldogs Top Alvernia, 13-8

 
Center Valley, PA, (April 25, 2005) – The DeSales University baseball team snapped its three-game losing skid with a 13-8 win over Alvernia College on Monday afternoon in a non-conference game at Butz Field.
 
        The Bulldog bats totaled 15 base hits and scored double figure runs for the 12th time this season and for the first time in the last five games to improve to 22-8 overall.  The loss drops Alvernia to 28-4 overall.
 
        DSU answered the Crusaders three run in the first inning with five of its own in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-3 lead.  After a solo home run by senior Kyle Hoffman (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) in the second inning staking DSU to a 6-3 lead, AC scored twice in both the third and fourth innings to take a 7-6 lead.
 
        The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning with four runs and added three more in the sixth to take a 13-7 lead and the DSU bullpen tossed four innings allowing just one run to preserve the win for senior Anthony Palmieri (Morgantown, PA/Upper Merion).  Palmieri lasted five innings allowing nine hits and seven runs as he improves to 6-0 on the season.
 
        Senior Chris Peters (Allentown, PA/Parkland) garnered Cambridge Search Player of the Game honors by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI’s at the plate.  Hoffman was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI’s and senior Brian Podolak (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth’s) and junior Derek Miller (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) each had two hits in the win.

         The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow night as they travel to Limeport, PA in Limeport Stadium to take on local rival Moravian College under the lights at 7:00 pm.  The game will be televised live via Service Electric Cable, Channel 2 locally.
