Center Valley, PA, (April 29, 2005) – A 9-1 win over the University of Scranton coupled with the Wilkes loss to King’s College on Friday and the DeSales University baseball team has clinched the top seed in next weekend’s Freedom Conference playoffs.
The Bulldogs have won four straight and improve to 25-8 overall and 12-4 in the Freedom Conference. The five time defending Freedom Conference champions will be the top seed with the tournament slated to begin on Friday at Quakertown Memorial Park at 4:00 pm. The loss drops the Royals to 5-23 overall and 3-13 in the Freedom standings.
Junior Matt Reppert (Allentown, PA/Dieruff) earns Cambridge Search Player of the Game honors with a complete-game effort scattering eight hits and striking out seven to improve to 6-2 on the season. He lowers his team-best ERA to 1.40 for the year.
Seniors Ian Hauze (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) and Kyle Hoffman (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) each had big offensive games as Hauze belted a solo home run in the third inning and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI’s and Hoffman finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI’s. Senior Nolan Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and senior Kyle Peters (Allentown, PA/Parkland) had two hits.
DSU returns to action on Saturday as they host The University of Scranton in the final two games of the weekend three-game set beginning at 1:00 pm.
