Center Valley, PA, (April 6, 2005) – The DeSales University softball team split its fourth straight doubleheader losing game one, 8-4, before bouncing back to defeat Arcadia University, 7-6, in the second game in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
The split moves DeSales record to 8-9 overall, while the Scarlet Knights go to 13-8 overall. In game one, Arcadia took a 7-0 lead with four in the second and three in the fourth. Junior Danielle Jenson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth), sophomore Jennifer Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) and senior Kristen Matsen (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon) each had two hits in the game one loss.
Sophomore Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) took the loss as she lasted just five innings allowing nine hits and five earned runs. Wilk drops to 3-5 on the year.
In game two, Jenson pitched a complete-game and held off a late Scarlet Knight rally to improve to 5-2 on the year. Jenson allowed just two runs over the first six innings before five straight hits, including a three-run homer in the seventh made the score 7-6, but Jenson retired the final batter to end the game.
Graduate Student Valerie Valach (Huntingdon Valley, PA/St. Basil Academy) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, sophomore Jenn Murray (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) was 2-for-4 with a two run home run and senior Jennine Mara (Philadelphia, PA/John W. Hallahan) was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Senior Shavonne Hannahoe (Shoemakersville, PA/Hamburg Area) and junior Jenna Rau (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) also each had two hits in game two.
DeSales returns to action on Thursday, April 7th as they travel to William Paterson University for another non-conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
