Wilkes-Barre, PA, (April 8, 2005) – The DeSales University baseball team continued its torrid hitting this week as they scored 15 runs and defeated the Monarchs of King’s College, 15-4, in Freedom Conference action on Friday evening in the first of three games this weekend.
In what was advertised as being a pitcher’s duel with arguably the two best pitchers in the Freedom Conference on the mound facing off against each other, the Bulldog offense banged out 21 hits and scored 10 runs on King’s starter Paul Giovannoli to record the conference victory. Senior Matt Reppert (Allentown, PA/Dieruff) returned to form one week after suffering his first loss of the season as he went seven innings allowing just seven hits and one earned run to improve to 4-1 on the season. Giovannoli suffered his first defeat to fall to 4-1.
Senior Dan Fratantoro (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township), the Cambridge Search Player of the Game, and fellow seniors Nolan Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) and Kyle Hoffman (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) did most of the damage at the plate.
Fratantoro finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored, a home run (his fourth of the season) and four RBI’s. Hoffman was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and five RBI’s and Neiman was 5-for-5 with three runs scored and a double.
