Baseball Completes Sweep of Scranton, Wins Sixth Straight

 
Center Valley, PA, (May 1, 2005) – The DeSales University baseball team finished its regular season Freedom Conference schedule by completing the three-game sweep of The University of Scranton on Sunday afternoon at Butz Field with wins by the scores of 3-1 and 13-2.
 
        The Bulldogs are now 27-8 overall and finish with a 14-4 Freedom Conference record and the #1 seed in this weekend’s Freedom Conference playoff tournament.  The Royals end their season with a 5-25 overall mark and a 3-15 record in the Freedom.
 
        In game one senior Anthony Palmieri (Morgantown, PA/Upper Merion) improved to 7-0 on the season by pitching six innings allowing just three hits and one run to go along with nine strikeouts as he garners Cambridge Search Player of the Game honors.  Sophomore Jon Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) recorded his third save of the season by pitching a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts.
 
        At the plate in game one senior Ian Hauze (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville), senior Kyle Peters (Allentown, PA/Parkland) and sophomore Luke Pisker (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) each had RBI hits to lead the Bulldogs to the 3-1 win.
 
        In game two, Hauze continued his hot hitting this season as he earned Cambridge Search Player of the Game honors by going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI’s.  Pisker contributed to the offensive attack with a 3-for-3 effort including a run and three RBI’s.
 
        On the mound, freshman JT Brotosky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) pitched a solid five innings allowing just three hits and one run with seven strikeouts to improve to 3-1 on the season.  Freshman Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) had one hit and stole three bases including home plate to score one run and senior Nolan Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) walked and scored three times in the win.

         DeSales has locked up the No. 1 seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs and will play two tune up games on Tuesday (at Muhlenberg) and Wednesday (vs. Stevens Tech) before beginning its quest for its sixth straight Freedom Conference title on Friday at 4:00 pm at Quakertown Memorial Park.  The Bulldogs first-round opponent will be announced later pending today’s other Freedom Conference results.
