Bulldogs fall to Rowan, 12-1, Advance to Loser’s Bracket

Senior Ian Hauze accounted for the lone Bulldog run with a solo home run in the ninth inning on Saturday vs. Rowan University.

Boyertown, PA (May 21, 2005) – Just hours after defeating Alvernia College 10-4 to advance to the winner’s bracket championship game, the DeSales University baseball team was sent to the loser’s bracket by the #1 seed Rowan University, 12-1, at Bear Stadium in Boyertown, PA.

The loss means the Bulldogs (35-9) will need to win three more games to advance to the College World Series.  DSU will play the winner of the Alvernia/Messiah game, which started at 4:30 pm on Saturday.  That game will be played on Sunday beginning at 10:00 am.

If the Bulldogs win they will play Rowan University (40-7) in the Regional Championship game immediately following the first contest and will need to defeat the Profs twice to advance to the World Series.  The second game with Rowan, pending a Bulldog win in the first meeting, would take place on Monday if necessary.

The game with the Profs was broken open early as DSU yielded two runs in the second inning and seven more in the third to fall behind, 9-0.  Irv McFarland had the big blows, a two-run home run in the second inning and a three-run home run in the third inning to lead the Rowan attack.  RU added two more runs in the eighth inning on a two-run single from Matt Enuco and Brian McLaughlin provided the exclamation point with a solo home run to left field in the ninth.

DSU senior Ian Hauze (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) provided the lone Bulldog run as he extended his 23-game hitting streak with a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Sophomore Luke Pisker (Oley, PA/Oley) took the loss as he lasted just 2.1 innings allowing seven runs.  Seniors Dan Fratantoro (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) and Nolan Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) each had two hits in the loss to the Profs.
