Peters Blast Leads Bulldogs Past FDU-Florham in Freedom Playoffs

 
Quakertown, PA, (May 6, 2005) – Senior Kyle Peters (Allentown, PA/Parkland) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a tie at six and lead the DeSales University baseball team past FDU-Florham, 7-6, in the opening game of the 2005 Freedom Conference playoffs.
 
        DeSales (29-8 overall) was cruising for most of the game, taking a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning and adding one run in the bottom of the fifth to lead 6-0 thru six innings.  The Devils (22-13 overall) got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh with a solo run and after plating another in top of the eighth to make it a 6-2 game senior Thomas Calistri hit a grand slam over the left field fence to tie the game at six.
 
        After retiring the first batter in the bottom of the eighth inning, Peters, the Cambridge Search Player of the Game, hit his first home run of the season with one away to give DSU the lead and eventually the win.  Junior Matt Reppert (Allentown, PA/Dieruff) earned the win as he pitched a complete game scattering seven hits and allowing six runs (only one earned run) while striking out 11 to improve to 7-2 on the year.
 
        Senior Chris Peters (Allentown, PA/Parkland) was 2-for-3 at the plate and knocked in two runs, junior Derek Miller (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) also had two hits and two RBI’s and senior Nolan Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
 
        The Bulldogs advance to the semifinals to face the #2 seed King’s College who defeated Wilkes University 8-0 in the other first round game. Sophomore Paul Giovannoli earned the win in the second game as he tossed eight shutout innings with eight strikeouts.
 
        DeSales semifinal round game on Saturday can be heard on the radio at WGPA 1100 AM in the Lehigh Valley area or you can log onto the internet and access the broadcast via the radio station’s web site at http://www.wgpasunny1100.com/welcomepg.html.

        The winner of the game will advance to the championship game on Sunday beginning at Noon at Quakertown Memorial Park.
