LaPlume, PA, (September 1, 2005) – The brother duo of junior Randy Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) and freshman Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) scored all four DeSales University goals in leading the men’s soccer team past Keystone College, 4-0, in non-conference action on Thursday evening in the 2006 season opener.
The eldest Sturm recorded a hat trick and scored the eventual game-winner, while the younger Sturm recorded his first career marker for the second goal of the game and assisted on Sturm’s game-winner at the 26:05 mark of the first half. Randy’s last two goals came in the second half to put the icing on the cake and Dustin’s lone tally came with just one second left on the first-half clock.
DSU (1-0 overall) out-shot Keystone 23-4 in the game and sophomore Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) and senior Jeff Strayer (Denver, PA/Cocalico) combined on the shutout. Riedmiller played the first 82+ minutes, recording three saves.
Adding assists in the game were freshman German Reyes (Beach Lake, PA/Honesdale) with two helpers and sophomore Daniel Jones (Ronks, PA/Pequea Valley) with an assist on the final goal of the game.
DSU returns to action on Saturday as they travel to LaRoche College for the LaRoche College Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The Bulldogs take on the host in the opening round on Saturday beginning at 4:30 pm.
