Radnor, PA (September 10, 2005) – The DeSales University volleyball split a tri-match at Cabrini College on Saturday afternoon, losing to the host Cavaliers 3-2 and defeating Bryn Mawr College, 3-2, in the second match of the day.
The Bulldogs (4-4 overall) lost the first match by scores of 24-30, 30-23, 29-31, 30-15, 17-15 and won the second match by scores of 30-22, 21-30, 23-30, 30-28, 15-12. DeSales had two match points in the opening match loss to Cabrini but were unable to finish off the Cavaliers to record the sweep.
In the first match freshman Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) led the attack with 11 kills and sophomore Allie Boyer (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) totaled 10 kills. Senior Colleen Arthur (Ridley Park, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) had a team-high 23 digs and sophomore Gia Zimmerman (Blandon, PA/Reading Central Catholic) totaled 14 digs and three service aces.
In the second match, junior Janna Sheckler (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) was tremendous pounding a team-high 24 kills with just five errors. Rivera added 16 kills and a team-high 15 digs and Boyer totaled 10 for the second straight match. Freshman Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) handed out 56 assists and had 11 digs.
DeSales returns to action on Monday as they travel to Alvernia College for a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
