Allentown, PA (September 13, 2005) – The DeSales University field hockey team rebounded from its first and only loss of the season with a shutout win over Cedar Crest College, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (4-1 overall) dominated the game from start to finish as they out-shot the Falcons (1-4 overall), 60-3 and held a 14-1 edge in penalty corners. The shutout was the second of the season for DSU as sophomores Amy Zoltek (Harleysville, PA/Lansdale Catholic) and Rachel Coleman (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) combined for two saves in the win.
Senior Gina Malatesta (Warminster, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored twice including the game-winner 8:23 into the game. Junior Bethany Hepner (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) tallied a goal and sophomore Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton) led the scoring train with one goal and two assists. Freshman Amanda Deal (Macungie, PA/Whitehall) recorded her first career point with an assist on Malatesta’s second goal.
DSU returns to action on Thursday as they host its first home game of the season with Elizabethtown College visiting Center Valley, PA for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
