Center Valley, PA (September 15, 2005) – The DeSales University field hockey team suffered a tough loss in its 2005 season home opener as Elizabethtown College scored the lone goal of the game late in the second half to steal a non-conference win on foreign turf, 1-0.
The Blue Jays (4-2 overall) scored at the 60:17 mark of the second half as Val Bawell tallied her third marker of the season pushing home the game-winner off a rebound from a previous shot by teammate Mel Slessinger. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 4-2 overall on the season.
DSU had controlled much of the first half, holding a 4-2 lead in shots in the opening 35 minutes, but E-Town responded with seven of its 11 corners and 12 of its 14 shots in the second stanza to secure the road win. DSU managed just two shots in the second half.
Sophomore Amy Zoltek (Harleysville, PA/Lansdale Catholic) made six saves, all in the second half, for DSU. Kristen Callaghan recorded two saves in recording the shutout for the Blue Jays.
DeSales returns to action and to the road on Saturday, September 17th as they travel to Drew University for its first-ever Freedom Conference game at Drew University. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
