Madison, NJ, (September 17, 2005) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team has started the 2005 season with six consecutive wins as they blanked FDU-Florham in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon, 9-0.
The Bulldogs, now 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Freedom Conference, have lost just three individual matches all season and are enjoying the best start to a season in program history. Leading the way again was senior Laura LeVan (Orefield, PA/Parkland) who won at No. 1 singles and doubles. LeVan teamed with sophomore Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) to win 8-0 at No. 1 singles and LeVan posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 1 singles spot. Guidon also won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Sophomore Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) extended her career unbeaten streak in singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 spot and teamed with fellow sophomore Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) to win 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. McElvaney also won at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-0.
Junior Colleen Solomon (Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and freshman Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) won 8-0 at the No. 6 spot. Solomon and Gerlach combined to win 8-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot to round out the match.
DSU returns to action on Wednesday, September 21st as they host Drew University in another Freedom Conference match beginning at 3:30 pm.
