Center Valley, PA (September 17, 2005) – The DeSales University women’s soccer team recorded its fourth shutout of the season, blanking Gwynedd-Mercy College, 1-0, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
DSU (4-2 overall) has now recorded a shutout in each of its four wins this season. Junior Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made eight saves in the win and junior Nikki Cressman (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) made what turned out to be a game saving play in the first half, heading out a shot that was headed for the net as Hinkle was beat on the play by a Griffin (2-3-1 overall) forward.
The Bulldogs scored the only goal it needed just 1:18 into the second half as senior Rachel Emmons (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) found fellow senior Kaitlyn Celeste (Basking Ridge, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) streaking down the right side of the field and Celeste knocked the ball into the upper right corner to give DSU a 1-0 lead. Gwynedd-Mercy out-shot DeSales 13-12 and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, September 20th as they travel to Drew University for its first Freedom Conference game of the season beginning at 7:00 pm.
