Scranton, PA (September 17, 2005) – The DeSales University volleyball team posted a 1-3 record over the weekend at the University of Scranton Invitational Tournament played on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
DSU went 1-1 on Friday opening with a 3-1 (30-19, 22-30, 30-25, 30-23) win over Mt. Aloysius College before dropping a 3-0 (30-25, 30-15, 30-24) decision to Elizabethtown College. On Saturday, DSU lost to York College 3-0 (30-25, 30-21, 30-17) and then fell to Montclair State University, 3-2 (17-30, 30-23, 19-30, 30-24, 15-12).
Freshman Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) led the attack for the Bulldogs with a team-high 55 kills over the four matches played. Sophomore Allie Boyer (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) totaled 22 kills and junior Janna Sheckler (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) tallied 33 kills and had seven blocks over the two days.
Sophomore Gia Zimmerman (Blandon, PA/Reading Central Catholic) totaled a team-high 42 digs, senior Colleen Arthur (Ridley Park, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) totaled 24 digs and freshman Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) handed out 144 assists and had 10 service aces in the four matches.
DeSales falls to 6-8 overall for the season and returns to action on Wednesday, September 21st as they host Lycoming College in a Freedom Conference match and the first home match of the year for the Bulldogs. Match will begin at 7:00 pm.
