Reading, PA, (September 24, 2005) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team extended its program best start to eight consecutive wins defeating Alvernia College, 9-0, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
DSU (8-0 overall) was playing without senior Laura LeVan (Orefield, PA/Parkland) but found little trouble in defeating the Crusaders (0-6 overall). Sophomores Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford), Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) all moved up one position during singles play but continued their winning ways with straight set wins.
Sophomore Colleen Solomon (Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) won at the No. 4 spot by default and freshmen Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) and Jess Ruhl (East Earl, PA/Garden Spot) also won at the No. 5 and 6 singles positions.
McClurkin teamed with McElvaney to win 8-0 at the No. 1 doubles spot, Guidon and Solomon won 8-3 at the No. 2 spot and Gerlach and Ruhl won 8-4 in the No. 3 spot.
DSU returns to action on Thursday, September 29th as they host Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference match beginning at 4:00 pm.
