Center Valley, PA (September 28, 2005) – The DeSales University field hockey team earned its fourth straight win on Wednesday afternoon defeating Stevens Institute of Technology, 5-1, in non-conference action.

Sophomore Jen Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) scored the game-winner at the 15:15 mark of the first half touching a pass from fellow sophomore Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton) into the cage for her seventh goal of the season.

Freshman Marisa Baldassano (Audubon, NJ/Villa Maria Academy) had given the Bulldogs (8-3 overall) a 1-0 edge with her fourth marker of the season putting home a loose ball in front of the goal cage just 54 seconds into the game.  The Ducks (5-3 overall) tied the game just six minutes later as Valerie Barnhart scored her sixth tally of the season at the 6:06 mark before Pulcini gave DSU the lead for good.

The second half was all DeSales with senior Gina Malatesta (Warminster, PA/St. Basil Academy) scoring twice each off rebounds from a saved shot and junior Bethany Hepner (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) scored her ninth of the season on a rocket shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner feed from Sparango who earned her second assist of the game.

DSU out-shot Stevens, 19-9 and held a slim 7-6 lead in penalty corners.  Sophomore Amy Zoltek (Harleysville, PA/Lansdale Catholic) made three saves for the Bulldogs to record the win.

DeSales returns to action on homecoming Saturday as they host the nationally ranked Flying Dutchmen from Lebanon Valley College at 1:00 pm.
