Wilkes-Barre, PA, (September 4, 2005) – The DeSales University continued its hot streak on the field as they pounded Marywood University, 9-1, in non-conference action at the Wilkes University tournament on Sunday afternoon.
DSU (3-0 overall) out-shot Marywood, 47-5, and set a new team record for goals in a game with nine. Senior Gina Malatesta (Warminster, PA/St. Basil Academy) tied her own record with four goals in the game to lead the attack. DSU scored four times in the first half and five more times in the second half.
Also scoring mutliple goals was sophomore Jen Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) who tallied three goals and added one assist in the win. Sophomore Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton) and junior Bethany Hepner (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) also scored goals to round out the scoring.
Sophomore Casey Opdyke (Bath, PA/Northampton) and Hepner each added assists in the win. Sophomores Amy Zoltek (Harleysville, PA/Lansdale Catholic) and Rachel Coleman (New Castle DE/Padua Academy) combined to make five saves in the win.
DSU has now won seven straight games dating back to last season and will try to make it eight straight overall and four straight this year as they travel cross-town to Moravian College for a non-conference game on Thursday at 4:00 pm.
