Pittsburgh, PA, (September 4, 2005) – The DeSales University men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2005 season, falling to New Jersey City University, 2-1, at the LaRoche College Tournament in Pittsburgh, PA.

DSU (2-1 overall) trailed 2-0 at halftime and having missed an opportunity to pull within one goal on a missed penalty kick in the first half.  Junior Randy Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) did make it a one-goal game in the 65th minute of the second half, but the Bulldogs were never able to find that tying goal and fell for the first time.  Freshman Chris Ravita (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) had an assist on the Sturm goal.

NJ City’s goals were scored by Marcelo Carpio and were assisted by Cristhian Azuna as they hooked up twice in the first half to spoil DSU’s hopes of a third straight win.  Sophomore Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) made five saves in suffering his first loss in a Bulldog uniform.

DeSales returns to action on Wednesday, September 7th as they travel to Cabrini College for another non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
