Center Valley, PA, (September 8, 2005) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team opened its 2005 Freedom Conference schedule with a convincing win over Wilkes University, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon in Center Valley, PA.
Senior Laura LeVan (Orefield, PA/Parkland) was among the double winners as she teamed with sophomore Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) at No. 1 doubles to win 8-4 and each won in singles with LeVan winning 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot and Guidon winning in three sets at the No. 3 spot.
Sophomores Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) and Mary Kate McElavaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) teamed to win at No. 2 doubles and each won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 4 singles.
Freshman Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) teamed with junior Colleen Solomon (Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) to win at No. 3 doubles and Gerlach also won at No. 6 singles, 6-7 (7-5), 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) to post the final margin for the Bulldogs.
DSU returns to action on Saturday, September 10th as they host Albright College in a non-conference match beginning at 1:00 pm.
