Center Valley, PA, (January 30, 2006) – The DeSales University men’s basketball team earned its third straight win cruising past PSU-Berks, 81-52, in non-conference action on Monday evening in Billera Hall.
The outcome of the game was never in doubt as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 35-8 lead at the 5:39 mark of the first-half and never looked back. The lead peaked at 37 points, 78-41, with 4:54 to go in the game before DSU settled for the final 29-point margin. DeSales tied the school-record for three-pointers made in a game with 16 on just 25 attempts (64.0 percent) and shot 52.7 percent from the field in the win.
The win improves DSU to 13-5 overall, while the loss drops PSU-Berks to 8-9 overall. In addition to the torrid shooting, DSU enjoyed a 37-32 edge on the boards and handed out 24 assists as a team.
Three players reached double digits including junior Sedale Walton (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) with a team-high 13 points. Sophomore Eddie Ohlson (Allentown, PA/Parkland) totaled 12 points and five assists and junior Steve Kriczky (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) totaled 10 points off the bench.
Senior Drew Christman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) and freshman Ed Lapinski (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) each had nine points and sophomore Phil Stricker (Womelsdorf, PA/Conrad Weiser) and freshman Mike Myers (Easton, PA/Easton) totaled eight points in the win.
The Nittany Lions were led by Joe Askew with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Jeremy Hurt recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds to go along with four blocks in the losing effort.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, February 1st as they host Drew University in a Freedom Conference game beginning at 8:00 pm.
