Hoboken, NJ (October 11, 2006) – Junior Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton) scored her fifth goal of the season lifting the DeSales University field hockey team past Stevens Institute of Technology, 3-2, in overtime on Wednesday evening.

The goal was Sparango’s third game-winner of the season as she took a pass from senior Bethany Hepner (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) and scored to give DSU the win 7:01 into the first overtime.

The Bulldogs (9-5 overall) had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before the Ducks (8-5 overall) tied the game each time.  Sophomore Amanda Deal (Macungie, PA/Whitehall) started the scoring with her 10th goal of the season at the 11:07 mark of the first half on an assist from freshman Meghan Iudicello (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl).  Stevens tied the score with just one second left in the first half on a goal by Kara Borzillo.

Stevens out-shot DeSales, 19-10, and held a 9-5 edge in penalty corners.  Freshman Molly Pope (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) had six saves in between the pipes, while Stephanie Smith had five for the Ducks.
