Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 14, 2006) – The DeSales University women’s soccer team shook off a tough loss on Monday with a very important 2-0 win over King’s College on Saturday in Freedom Conference action.
The win puts the Bulldogs (5-9, 2-3 Freedom) in a good position to earn a Freedom Conference playoff berth with two wins over their last two conference games (vs. Drew and Lycoming). The loss drops the Lady Monarchs to 4-7-2 overall and 0-3-2 in the Freedom.
DSU scored both of its goals in the first half to record the win. Sophomore Jessica Baker (Churchville, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored the eventual game-winner at the 31:30 mark of the first half on an assist from fellow sophomore Dana Eustace (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Township). Eustace added the insurance marker at 37:27 on an assist from freshman Emily LaDuke (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall).
King’s did out-shoot DeSales, 11-8, but senior Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made six saves to record her third shutout of the season. Hinkle now has 14 career shutouts, one shy of tying the all-time record.
DSU returns to action on Wednesday, October 18th when they host Drew University in another very important Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
