Wilkes knocks off DSU Men’s Soccer, 1-0

Junior Rusty Riedmiller made six stops in the 1-0 loss at Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 14, 2006) – The DeSales University men’s soccer team was blanked for the second time in three games falling to Wilkes University, 1-0, in a Freedom Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (8-4-2, 3-2 Freedom) had several chances to get on the scoreboard in the game but were unable to do so.  DSU out-shot Wilkes (11-3, 5-0 Freedom), 12-11, and held a slim 8-7 edge in corner kicks but the Colonels scored at 55:26 of the second half to break a scoreless tie and held on for the important conference victory.

Steve Uhas tallied the game-winner as his head ball off a corner kick pass from Matt Foreman deflected off the back of a DSU defender’s leg and into the net.  Junior Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) made six saves in between the pipes for the Bulldogs, while Dominik Proctor had three stops for the Colonels.

DSU will look to return to the win column on Tuesday, October 17th when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College for a non-conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
