Center Valley, PA (October 18, 2006) – The DeSales University women’s soccer team recorded one of the biggest wins in team history today defeating Drew University for the first time in 10 career meetings, 1-0, in double overtime to move them very close to earning a Freedom Conference playoff berth.
The win moves the Bulldogs to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom Conference, while the loss drops the Rangers to 6-8-1 overall and 2-4 in the Freedom. DSU now owns the head-to-head tiebreaker with Drew and can clinch a playoff spot with a win over Lycoming College on Sunday, October 29
th.

Freshman Emily LaDuke (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) was credited with the game-winner, her fifth tally of the season. In the second overtime, LaDuke served a corner kick right into the goalmouth, the Ranger keeper made an attempt to fist the ball out of the goal area, but in her attempt the ball skidded off her fist and just over the goal line to end the game.
The game was evenly matched throughout the afternoon with Drew holding a slight 14-9 edge on shots. Both keepers made one tremendous save each to keep the game a 0-0 tie. Sophomore Ann Mularz had the first great save in the first minute of the game when LaDuke very nearly made it 1-0 when she hit a shot from just outside the box into the far left corner, but Mularz dove and grabbed the ball out of mid-air to keep the game scoreless.
Later in the first half with about five minutes left, Drew had a golden opportunity to make it a 1-0 game. The Rangers had a corner kick and the ball was headed off the corner kick service towards the net but senior Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made a split second reaction and tipped the ball over the net.
Hinkle finished the game with three saves and earns her fourth shutout of the season and the 15th of her career. She is now tied for the all-time lead at DeSales with 15 career shutouts. Mularz made four stops for the Rangers.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, October 20th when they travel to New York University for a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
