Madison, NJ (October 18, 2006) – The DeSales University volleyball team traveled to FDU-Florham on Wednesday fighting for its playoff lives and nearly came up with a huge upset over the Devils before falling short, 3-2 (26-30, 27-30, 30-20, 30-21, 15-11), in Freedom Conference action.
The Bulldogs (9-17, 2-4 Freedom) had the Devils on the ropes taking each of the first two games before FDU (19-11, 4-1 Freedom) rallied to take the final three and earn the conference win. DSU needed to win tonight to keep its playoff hopes alive and are now eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.
Freshman Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) led the Bulldogs once again with a team-high 20 kills giving her 380 for the season and is now just 20 shy of becoming just the second player in DSU history to have 400+ kills in a season.
Junior Allie Boyer (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) added 10 kills and eight digs, sophomore Ashley Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) added nine kills and four blocks and freshman Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had eight kills and 16 digs.
