Eustace Scores Twice, Bulldogs top NYU, 2-0, for Third Straight Win

Sophomore Dana Eustace scored twice in the 2-0 win over New York University on Friday afternoon.

New York, NY (October 20, 2006) – Sophomore Dana Eustace (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Township) scored two goals to lead the DeSales University women’s soccer team to its third straight win, a 2-0 decision over New York University in non-conference action on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs improve to 7-9 overall with the win, while NYU drops to 5-7-1 overall.  New York held a 14-2 edge in shots and a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks, but DSU was the team that made the most of its opportunities scoring on both its shot attempts to capture the win.

Eustace’ markers give her 10 goals on the season, which ranks as the fifth best total in school history.  She scored both tallies in the first half with the first coming off an assist from freshman Katie Halpin (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) and the second coming off a beautiful feed from sophomore Stefanie Geronimo (Middletown, NJ/Mater Dei).

Senior Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) extended her shutout streak to three straight games and has not allowed a goal in 289:02.  It’s her fifth blanking of the season and gives her 16 career shutouts, breaking the all-time record of 15 which was held by Melissa Levush.  The all-time record for consecutive shutout minutes is also held by Levush and stands at 358:18, so Hinkle will have a chance to break that record in DSU’s next game on Monday, October 23rd at home vs. Rutgers-Newark.

The defense also deserves much of the credit in Hinkle’s recent shutout streak.  Junior Danielle Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South), senior Jessica Tate (Warrington, PA/Mount St. Joseph Academy), senior Liz Wal (Philadelphia, PA/Little Flower) and Geronimo, who had an assist today, have been the primary defensive players over the past three games in front on Hinkle.
